Hello, Guys today in this article we are going to discuss How much cement required per square meter for plastering and how many cement bags required per square meter for plastering. Because Plastering is very important for a building. Plastering makes smooths the wall. We can not do the putty and paint work without plaster. So plastering work is important, and for the plastering cement and sand uses as the main ingredient. In such a situation for estimating the cost of plastering, You have to know how much cement and sand required per square meter for plastering.
How much cement and sand quantity require for 1 square meter of plastering? It depends on two factors.
- Mix ratio of Mortar
- Thickness of plaster
Types of Plastering mixing ratio
There are many types of mix ratios used for plastering. The plastering mix ratio depends on the type of surface on which plastering is to be done. Usually, four types of plastering mixing ratios are used, Which is like this 1:3, 1:4, 1:5, and 1:6. Different types of plastering mixing ratios use for different types of surfaces or work.
- 1:3 Mix ratio: 1:3 cement and sand mix ratio is usually used for external wall repairing plastering. This mix ratio can sustain in server climate conditions and its mix ratio has more cement quantity. Therefore it uses for external wall repair.
- 1:4 Mix Ratio: This mix ratio of cement and sand is used for ceiling plastering and external brick wall plastering.
- 1:5 Mix Ratio: This mix ratio of cement and sand is used when the sand quality is not fine.
- 1:6 Mix Ratio: This mix ratio of cement and sand is used, when sand quality is fine. This is the last mix ratio of cement and sand, that can use in plastering.
What should be the thickness of the plaster
The thickness of the plaster decides by the surface of the area, on which the plaster is to be done. Generally, 4 types of thickness are used in plastering, that is 6mm, 12mm, 15mm, and 20mm. Different types of thicknesses use for different types of surfaces for plastering.
- 6mm thickness of plaster used for the plastering of the concrete structure and ceiling.
- 12mm thick plaster is used for the plane of the surface of the brick wall like an internal wall.
- Generally, 15mm and 20mm thick plaster is used for the rough surface of the brick wall like the external wall of buildings.
How many cement bags required per square meter for plastering
For this calculation will take plaster thickness = 12mm.
12mm is equal to 0.012m
We have taken the cement-sand ratio is 1:4 because this ratio widely uses.
We have given an area = 1m2.
Now, first, we will calculate the plaster volume of the brick wall.
The volume of brick wall plaster = Area × thickness
= 1 × 0.012 = 0.012 m3.
This is the wet volume of the cement sand mortar. As we know that to get the dry dry volume of mortar we have to multiply in wet volume by 1.33.
Therefore, Dry volume of mortar = wet volume of plaster mortar × 1.33
= 0.012 × 1.33 = 0.1596 m3.
Plastering estimate per square meter
The plastering estimate per square meter depends upon the mixing ratio of mortar, the thickness of plaster, and the surface area on which plaster is to be done. Because all these factors can affect the cement sand quantity. Here are two examples of how can it affect and how to calculate how much cement, and sand required for plastering per square meter.
Cement quantity for 1 square meter of plastering
cement sand mix ratio = 1:4,
So the total ratio = 1+4 = 5, In this ratio 1 part is cement and 4 part is sand.
Now we will calculate the cement volume in the mix
Calculate Cement volume = part of cement in the mix × volume of mortar
= 1/5 × 0.01596 = 0.003192.
To get the cement weight we have to multiply in cement volume by the density of the cement.
Density of the cement = 1440 kg/m3
Since cement weight = volume of cement × density of the cement
= 0.003192 × 1440 kg/m3
= 4.59 = 4.6 kg.
4.6 kg of cement requires for 1 square meter of plastering.
Sand quantity for 1 square meter of plastering
cement sand mix ratio = 1:4,
So the total ratio = 1+4 = 5, In this ratio 1 part is cement and 4 part is sand.
Now we will calculate the sand volume in the mix
Sand volume = part of sand in the mix × volume of mortar
= 4/5 × 0.01596 = 0.0127.
To get the sand weight we have to multiply in sand volume by the density of the sand.
Density of the sand = 1620 kg/m3
Since sand weight = volume of sand × density of the sand
= 0.0127 × 1620 kg/m3
= 20.68 = 21 kg.
21 kg sand requires for 1 square meter of plastering.
Cement and sand quantity per square meter for 20mm thick plaster
Plaster thickness = 20mm.
20mm is equal to 0.020m
The cement-sand ratio is 1:4 because this ratio widely uses.
We have given an area = 1m2.
Now, first, we will calculate the plaster volume of the brick wall.
The volume of brick wall plaster = Area × thickness
= 1 × 0.020 = 0.020 m3.
This is the wet volume of the cement sand mortar. As we know that to get the dry dry volume of mortar we have to multiply in wet volume by 1.33.
Therefore, Dry volume of mortar = wet volume of plaster mortar × 1.33
= 0.020 × 1.33 = 0.0266 m3.
Cement quantity for 1 square meter 20mm thick plaster
cement sand mix ratio = 1:4,
So the total ratio = 1+4 = 5, In this ratio 1 part is cement and 4 part is sand.
Now we will calculate the cement volume in the mix
Calculate Cement volume = part of cement in the mix × volume of mortar
= 1/5 × 0.0266 = 0.00532.
To get the cement weight we have to multiply in cement volume by the density of the cement.
Density of the cement = 1440 kg/m3
Since cement weight = volume of cement × density of the cement
= 0.00532 × 1440 kg/m3
= 7.66 = 7.7 kg.
7.7 kg of cement requires for 1 square meter of 20mm thick plaster.
Sand quantity for 1 square meter 20mm thick plaster
cement sand mix ratio = 1:4,
So the total ratio = 1+4 = 5, In this ratio 1 part is cement and 4 part is sand.
Now we will calculate the sand volume in the mix
Sand volume = part of sand in the mix × volume of mortar
= 4/5 × 0.0266 = 0.02128.
To get the sand weight we have to multiply in sand volume by the density of the sand.
Density of the sand = 1620 kg/m3
Since sand weight = volume of sand × density of the sand
= 0.02128 × 1620 kg/m3
= 34.47 = 24 kg.
24 kg sand requires for 1 square meter of 20mm thick plaster.
