Weight of Steel bars/ Rebar

Hello, friends today I am going to tell you in this article how to calculate steel bar weight. And I will also explain it in this article by calculating the weight of steel bars of different sizes.

Steel bars are known by different names in many different countries. Like in some countries steel bar is called rebar and in some countries, it is called reinforcement bar.

Weight of steel bars/ Rebar/ Reinforcement bar

When rebar is used in any structure or construction, rebar gives very high strength to that structure. That’s why rebar is used in all construction nowadays. That’s why there are many people who want to calculate the cost of rebar in their construction. I am writing this article for those people who want to know how to calculate the steel bar weight.

It may be that the subject on which I am writing this article is a common topic, And common people like me and you also need to do this type of calculation, then I will tell you in the very easy language in this article. how to calculate reinforcement bar weight.

Steel Bar/ Rebar Weight calculation Formula

Rebar weight is mainly calculated in kg/m, and kg/ft. in most of Western Europe and the USA to calculate the weight of reinforcement bars in lb/ft. There are 2 formulas to calculate the weight of steel bar which are as follows.

  • D2L/162. It is used to calculate rebar weight per meter.
  • D2L/533. It is used to calculate rebar weight per foot.

In this formula, D represents the diameter of the steel bar, and L represents the length of the steel bar.

How many Steel Bars/ Rebar are in a Bundle

The weight of the steel bar is determined on the basis of the size of the steel bar. As the size of the rebar increases, its weight also increases. In such a situation, if the number of rebar in a bundle of all sizes of rebar will be the same, then the weight of the bundle of rebar with thicker size will be very high, And then there will be problems with their transportation too. Therefore, the number of rebar in different sizes of rebar bundles is different. From this chart, you will get to know how many sizes of rebar are there in 1 bundle.

How many rebars are in a bundle

Weight of 8mm steel bar/ Rebar

8mm steel bars are very thin. And they are commonly used in ceiling, floor, and column rings. They are so thin that they cannot be used in beams, slabs, columns, etc.

8mm steel bar weight per meter

As we know that diameter of the 8mm steel bar is 8mm and we have to calculate 1 meter of 8mm rebar weight. so the length is 1 meter.
So, 8mm Steel bar weight per meter = D2L/162.
= (82 × 1) / 162
= 64/162 = 0.395 kg/m.

So, the 8mm steel bar weight per meter is 0.395 kg/m.

8mm steel bar weight per foot

Here we know the diameter is 8mm but the length is 1 foot.
So, 8mm reinforcement bar weight per foot = D2L/533
= (82 × 1) / 533.
= 64 / 533 = 0.120 kg/ft.

So, the 8mm steel bar weight per foot is 0.12 kg/ft.

8 mm steel bar weight per piece

As we know that standard length of the steel bar is 12 meters (40 feet). so the length of the steel bar per piece is 12 meters. and we have to calculate 8mm rebar weight so the diameter is 8mm.

So, 1 piece 8mm steel bar weight = D2L/162.
= (8 × 8 × 12) / 162.
= 768 / 162 = 4.74 kg/piece.

So, the 8mm steel bar weight per piece is 4.74 kg/piece.

we can calculate rebar weight using another formula (D2L/533). But we have to take the length in feet instead of meters.

Now we will calculate rebar weight per bundle, The number of steel bars in a bundle of different sizes of steel bars is different. But here we know how many steel bars are in a bundle of 8mm steel bars. So the number of steel bars in a bundle of 8 mm is 10.

1 bundle 8mm steel bar weight

here we can calculate steel bar weight per bundle using 2 methods. the first method is to add all 10 steel bar lengths and then calculate the weight. the second method is to calculate 1 steel bar weight and then multiply by 10. you can use any method according to your convenience.

Here, I will use the second method.
So, We have already calculated the 1 piece of rebar weight which is 4.74 kg.

8mm Steel bar Weight per bundle = weight of 1 piece rod × 10.
= 4.74 × 10 = 47.4 kg.

So, the weight of 1 bundle 8mm steel bar is 47.4 kg.

Weight of 10mm Steel bar/ Rebar

10mm steel bars also cannot be used for columns, beams, and slabs as they are thin in size. And their load-bearing capacity is less.

10mm steel bar weight per meter

As we know that diameter of the 10mm steel bar is 10mm and we have to calculate 1 meter of 10mm rebar weight. so the length is 1 meter.
So, 10mm Reinforcement bar weight per meter = D2L/162.
= (102 × 1) / 162
= 100/162 = 0.617 kg/m.

So, the 12mm steel bar weight per meter is 0.617 kg/m.

10mm steel bar weight per foot

Here we know the diameter is 10mm but the length is 1 foot.
So, 10mm reinforcement bar weight per foot = D2L/533
= (102 × 1) / 533.
= 100 / 533 = 0.187 kg/ft.

So, the 10mm steel bar weight per foot is 0.187 kg/ft.

10mm steel bar weight per piece

As we know that standard length of the steel bar is 12 meters (40 feet). so the length of the steel bar per piece is 12 meters. and we have to calculate 10mm rebar weight so the diameter is 10mm.

So, 1 piece 10mm steel bar weight = D2L/162.
= (10 × 10 × 12) / 162.
= 1200 / 162 = 7.407 kg/piece.

So, the 10mm steel bar weight per piece is 7.407 kg/piece.

Now we will calculate rebar weight per bundle, The number of steel bars in a bundle of different sizes of steel bars is different. But here we know how many steel bars are in a bundle of 10mm steel bars. So the number of steel bars in a bundle of 10 mm is 7.

1 bundle 10mm steel bar weight

here we can calculate steel bar weight per bundle using 2 methods. the first method is to add all 7 steel bar lengths and then calculate the weight. the second method is to calculate 1 steel bar weight and then multiply by 7. you can use any method according to your convenience.

Here, I will use the second method.
So, We have already calculated the 1 piece of rebar weight which is 7.407 kg.

8mm Steel bar Weight per bundle = weight of 1 piece rod × 7.
= 7.407 × 7 = 74.07 kg.

So, the weight of 1 bundle 10mm steel bar is 74.07 kg.

Weight of 12mm steel bar/ Rebar

Typically 12 mm steel bars are used in structures that require little work strength. Such as the construction of 1 or 2-story building slabs, beams, columns, and many more types of structures.

12mm steel bar weight per meter

As we know that diameter of the 12mm steel bar is 12mm and we have to calculate 1 meter of 12mm rebar weight. so the length is 1 meter.
So, 8mm Reinforcement bar weight per meter = D2L/162.
= (12 × 12 × 1) / 162
= 144/162 = 0.888 kg/m.

So, the 12mm steel bar weight per meter is 0.888 kg/m.

12mm steel bar weight per foot

Here we know the diameter is 12mm but the length is 1 foot.
So, 8mm reinforcement bar weight per foot = D2L/533
= (12 × 12 × 1) / 533.
= 144 / 533 = 0.270 kg/ft.

So, the 12mm steel bar weight per foot is 0.270 kg/ft.

12mm steel bar weight per piece

As we know that standard length of the steel bar is 12 meters (40 feet). so the length of the steel bar per piece is 12 meters. and we have to calculate 12mm rebar weight so the diameter is 12mm.

So, 1 piece 12mm steel bar weight = D2L/162.
= ( 12 × 12 × 12) / 162.
= 1728 / 162 = 10.666 kg/piece.

So, the 12mm steel bar weight per piece is 10.66 kg/piece.

Now we will calculate rebar weight per bundle, The number of steel bars in a bundle of different sizes of steel bars is different. But here we know how many steel bars are in a bundle of 12mm steel bars. So the number of steel bars in a bundle of 12 mm is 5.

1 bundle 12mm steel bar weight

Here we can calculate steel bar weight per bundle using 2 methods.

  • the first method is to add all 5 steel bar lengths and then calculate the weight.
  • the second method is to calculate 1 steel bar weight and then multiply by 5.

You can use any method according to your convenience. Here, I will use the first method.

So, the total length of 1 bundle 12mm steel bar is 12 × 5 = 60 meters.

12 mm Steel bar Weight per bundle = D2L/162.
= (12 × 12 × 60) / 162.
= 8640 / 162 = 53.33 kg.

So, the weight of 1 bundle 12mm steel bar is 53.33 kg.

Weight of 16mm steel bar/ Rebar

16 mm steel bars are thick in size and can be easily used in heavy structures. They are used without any problem in slabs, beams, and columns of multi-storey buildings.

16mm steel bar weight per meter

As we know that diameter of the 16mm steel bar is 16mm and we have to calculate 1 meter of 16mm rebar weight. so the length is 1 meter.
So, 16mm Reinforcement bar weight per meter = D2L/162.
= (16 × 16 × 1) / 162
= 256 / 162 = 1.58 kg/m.

So, the 16mm steel bar weight per meter is 1.58 kg/m.

16mm steel bar weight per foot

Here we know the diameter is 16mm but the length is 1 foot.
So, 16mm reinforcement bar weight per foot = D2L/533
= (16 × 16 × 1) / 533.
= 256 / 533 = 0.48 kg/ft.

So, the 16mm steel bar weight per foot is 0.48 kg/ft.

16mm steel bar weight per piece

As we know that standard length of the steel bar is 12 meters (40 feet). so the length of the steel bar per piece is 12 meters. and we have to calculate 16mm rebar weight so the diameter is 16mm.

So, 1 piece 16mm steel bar weight = D2L/162.
= ( 16 × 16 × 12) / 162.
= 3072 / 162 = 18.962 kg/piece.

So, the 16mm steel bar weight per piece is 18.96 kg/piece.

Now we will calculate rebar weight per bundle, The number of steel bars in a bundle of different sizes of steel bars is different. But here we know how many steel bars are in a bundle of 16mm steel bars. So the number of steel bars in a bundle of 16 mm is 3.

1 bundle 16mm steel bar weight

Here we can calculate steel bar weight per bundle using 2 methods.

  • the first method is to add all 3 steel bar lengths and then calculate the weight.
  • the second method is to calculate 1 steel bar weight and then multiply by 3.

You can use any method according to your convenience. Here, I will use the first method.

So, the total length of 1 bundle 16mm steel bar is 12 × 3 = 36 meters.

16 mm Steel bar Weight per bundle = D2L/162.
= (16 × 16 × 36) / 162.
= 9216 / 162 = 56.888 kg.

So, the weight of 1 bundle 16mm steel bar is 56.888 kg.

Weight of 20mm steel bar/ Rebar

20mm steel bars are very thick and are generally not used for the construction of ordinary and residential buildings.

20mm steel bar weight per meter
So, 16mm Reinforcement bar weight per meter = D2L/162.
= (20 × 20 × 1) / 162
= 400 / 162 = 2.469 kg/m.

So, the 20mm steel bar weight per meter is 2.469 kg/m.

20mm steel bar weight per foot

Here we know the diameter is 20mm but the length is 1 foot.
So, 20mm reinforcement bar weight per foot = D2L/533
= (20 × 20 × 1) / 533.
= 400 / 533 = 0.75 kg/ft.

So, the 20mm steel bar weight per foot is 0.75 kg/ft.

20mm steel bar weight per piece

As we know that standard length of the steel bar is 12 meters (40 feet). so the length of the steel bar per piece is 12 meters.

So, 1 piece 20mm steel bar weight = D2L/162.
= (20 × 20 × 12) / 162.
= 4800 / 162 = 29.629 kg/piece.

So, the 20mm steel bar weight per piece is 29.629 kg/piece.

Now we will calculate rebar weight per bundle, The number of steel bars in a bundle of different sizes of steel bars is different. But here we know how many steel bars are in a bundle of 16mm steel bars. So the number of steel bars in a bundle of 16 mm is 2.

1 bundle 20mm steel bar weight

Here we can calculate steel bar weight per bundle using 2 methods.

  • the first method is to add all 2 steel bar lengths and then calculate the weight.
  • the second method is to calculate 1 steel bar weight and then multiply by 2.

You can use any method according to your convenience. Here, I will use the first method.

So, the total length of 1 bundle 20mm steel bar is 12 × 2 = 24 meters.

16 mm Steel bar Weight per bundle = D2L/162.
= (20 × 20 × 24) / 162.
= 9600 / 162 = 59.259 kg.

So, the weight of 1 bundle 20mm steel bar is 59.259 kg.

Weight of 25mm Steel bar/ Rebar

The 25mm steel bar is commonly used in the construction of commercial structures, bridges, airports, etc. 25mm steel bars are generally not used in structures intended for personal use.

25mm steel bar weight per meter
So, 25mm Reinforcement bar weight per meter = D2L/162.
= (25 × 25 × 1) / 162
= 625 / 162 = 3.858 kg/m.

So, the 25mm steel bar weight per meter is 3.858 kg/m.

25mm steel bar weight per foot

Here we know the diameter is 25mm but the length is 1 foot.
So, 25mm reinforcement bar weight per foot = D2L/533
= (25 × 25 × 1) / 533.
= 625 / 533 = 1.172 kg/ft.

So, the 25mm steel bar weight per foot is 1.172 kg/ft.

25mm steel bar weight per piece

As we know that standard length of the steel bar is 12 meters (40 feet). so the length of the steel bar per piece is 12 meters.

So, 1 piece 25mm steel bar weight = D2L/162.
= (25 × 25 × 12) / 162.
= 7500 / 162 = 46.296 kg/piece.

So, the 25mm steel bar weight per piece is 46.296 kg/piece.

Weight of 32mm steel bar/ Rebar

The 32mm reinforcement bar is very thick and can be used in any type of large structure and project without any problem. They provide full strength to the structure in which 32 mm steel bar is used.

32mm steel bar weight per meter
So, 32mm Reinforcement bar weight per meter = D2L/162.
= (32 × 32 × 1) / 162
= 1024 / 162 = 6.32 kg/m.

So, the 32mm steel bar weight per meter is 6.32 kg/m.

32mm steel bar weight per foot
