Hello, Welcome to you in another new article, today we are going to know in this article how much cement sand and aggregate are required for M25 grade concrete. In this article, We will also know how much cement, sand, and aggregate is required for 1 cubic meter of M25 grade concrete.
The most commonly used material in any construction is concrete, but the same type of concrete is not used for all types of construction. Concrete is classified into different grades based on the mix ratio of cement, sand, and aggregate to be mixed in it.
What is Concrete Grade
Concrete strength measured after 28 days of any concrete construction is called concrete grade. The concrete grade is determined on the basis of the ratio of substances added to the concrete and the strength of the concrete. Generally, concrete grades are classified into 3 parts which are as follows.
- Normal/ Nominal grade of Concrete
- Standard-grade of Concrete
- High-strength grade Concrete
Normal/ Nominal grade concrete
Normal or nominal grade concrete is used for small constructions, Nominal mix grade concrete includes M5, M7.5, M10, M15, and M20 grades of concrete.
Normal grade concrete mix ratio and their compressive strength
Concrete Grade | mix ratio of concrete | Compressive Strength | Compressive Strength (psi) |
---|---|---|---|
M5 | 1:5:10 | 5 N/mm2 | 725 psi |
M7.5 | 1:4:8 | 7.5 N/mm2 | 1087 psi |
M10 | 1:3:6 | 10 N/mm2 | 1450 psi |
M15 | 1:2:4 | 15 N/mm2 | 2175 psi |
M20 | 1:1.5:3 | 20 N/mm2 | 2900 psi |
Standard Grade of Concrete
The compressive strength of standard-grade concrete is higher than the compressive strength of normal-grade concrete. Usually, M25, M30, M35, M40, and M45 grades of concrete come under the standard grade.
Standard grade concrete mix ratio and their compressive strength
Concrete Grade | mix ratio of concrete | Compressive Strength | Compressive Strength (psi) |
---|---|---|---|
M25 | 1:1:2 | 25 N/mm2 | 3625 psi |
M30 | Design mix | 30 N/mm2 | 4350 psi |
M35 | Design mix | 35 N/mm2 | 5075 psi |
M40 | Design mix | 40 N/mm2 | 5800 psi |
M45 | Design mix | 45 N/mm2 | 6520 psi |
High strength grade/ Design mix grade concrete
According to IS, code 456, high-strength grade concrete is used keeping in mind various parameters and the compressive strength of high strength concrete is more than the rest of the grade concrete.
High Strength grade concrete mix ratio and their compressive strength
Concrete Grade | mix ratio of concrete | Compressive Strength | Compressive Strength (psi) |
---|---|---|---|
M50 | Design mix | 50 N/mm2 | 7250 psi |
M55 | Design mix | 55 N/mm2 | 7975 psi |
M60 | Design mix | 60 N/mm2 | 8700 psi |
M65 | Design mix | 65 N/mm2 | 9425 psi |
M70 | Design mix | 70 N/mm2 | 10150 psi |
How much Cement, Sand, and Aggregate required for 1m3 of M25 grade concrete
M25 grade concrete is very useful concrete for structures requiring medium strength. In M25 grade concrete M represents the mix ratio in the grade of concrete while number 25 represents the compressive strength that the concrete holds after 28 days of curing.
M25 mix ratio has a special mix ratio that is 1:1:2, in which 1 part cement, 1 part sand, and 2 part aggregate.
The unit weight of 1 cubic meter of concrete is 2400 to 2500 kg per meter approximately. Where 2400 kg per meter is for PCC and 2500 kg for RCC. Since there is a reinforcement bar in RCC. That’s why RCC weighs more than PCC.
Now, we have to calculate the cement, sand, and aggregate required for 1m3 M25 grade concrete.
The wet volume of concrete = 1m3.
M25 grade concrete mix ratio = 1:2:2.
We have the wet volume of concrete. But to find out the actual quantity of cement, sand, and aggregate present in the M25 grade concrete, we have to convert the wet volume to dry volume.
To convert weight volume to dry volume, we need to multiply the weight volume by 1.54. This is because dry concrete has small pores and the air is filled in them. But when water is added to the dry concrete, the pores in the concrete and all the air are expelled from the concrete and the volume of the concrete is reduced by 54%.
So, dry volume of concrete = wet volume of concrete × 1.54
= 1 × 1.54 = 1.54 m3.
How much Cement is required for 1m3 of M25 grade concrete
Cement density = 1440 kg/m3.
Part of cement in mix = cement part/total mix ratio
= 1/ (1+1+2)
= 1/4.
Cement volume in concrete = cement part × total volume of dry concrete
= (1/4) × 1.54 m3.
= 0.385 m3.
Required cement for M25 grade of concrete in 1m3 = Cement volume in concrete × cement density
= 0.385 m3 × 1440 kg/m3.
= 554.4 = 554 kg.
Hence, 1 bag of cement contains 50 kg, then 554/50 = 11.08 = 11 bags.
So, 11 bags of cement are required for 1 cubic meter of M25 grade concrete.
How much Sand is required for 1m3 of M25 grade concrete
Sand density = 1620 kg/m3.
Part of sand in mix = sand part/total mix ratio
= 1/ (1+1+2)
= 1/4.
Sand volume in concrete = sand part × total volume of dry concrete
= (1/4) × 1.54 m3.
= 0.385 m3.
Required Sand for M25 grade of concrete in 1m3 = Sand volume in concrete × Sand density
= 0.385 m3 × 1620 kg/m3.
= 623.7 = 624 kg.
Hence, 1 CFT = 35.314 kg, then 624/35.314 = 17.67 = 18 bags.
So, 18 CFT sand is required for 1 cubic meter of M25 grade concrete.
How much Aggregate is required for 1m3 of M25 grade concrete
Aggregate density = 1550 kg/m3.
Part of Aggregate in mix = Aggregate part/total mix ratio
= 2/ (1+1+2)
= 2/4.
Aggregate volume in concrete = aggregate part × total volume of dry concrete
= (2/4) × 1.54 m3.
= 0.77 m3.
Required Aggregate for M25 grade of concrete in 1m3 = Aggregate volume in concrete × Aggregate density
= 0.77 m3 × 1550 kg/m3.
= 1193.5 = 1193 kg.
Hence, 1 CFT = 35.314 kg, then 1193/35.314 = 33.810 = 34 CFT.
So, 34 CFT Aggregate is required for 1 cubic meter of M25 concrete.
